What is RAW Footage?

f you’ve been to a wedding, you know that a lot is going on! From the bride and groom to the decorations, so much is happening! That is why people choose to add a wedding videographer in order to capture this! But all wedding videos have their limit, which is why we always suggest taking advantage of the raw footage we offer.

Raw footage is the footage of your wedding day, straight from the videographer’s camera. It will not be one continuous video, but rather a collection of many separate clips. Every time the videographer starts and stops recording, a new clip is created. At the end of your wedding day, there will typically be hundreds of clips.

Editing style: unedited Audio: on-camera audio, as-is Format: delivered in 1080p MP4 files (option to upgrade to 4k files available) Delivery: delivered on an external hard drive Package: can be added to any collection

What does raw footage look like?

Raw footage is completely unedited – It’s not cleaned up, enhanced, color corrected, and does not incorporate higher quality audio from external devices (such as microphones). It’s likely that the audio in your raw footage will not be as great as it would be in an edited video, depending on how close or far away the camera was positioned. The footage remains as it was captured, retaining all details, true colors, and lighting. Raw footage results in a variety of clip duration, which can vary from a short amount of time to a long period of time.

Since many of our clients do not own the computers and editing software needed to watch these files, we transcode them to an MP4 format for easier viewing. We also offer a Documentary Edit where we clean up the raw footage by cutting out camera adjustments or repetitive shots and edit it together so you can watch the most important parts of your day in full.

Do you need the raw footage from your wedding?

Raw Footage is for the couple and their family who want to see all their family and friends living in the moment. Living as if no one’s watching. No editing, and no curating – just your friend/family member going about their day.

LET ME TELL YOU A QUICK STORY:

A few years ago we were filming this beautiful wedding, artistically furnished with an oversized book as a ceremony backdrop, and filled with such an amazing tight-knit family. I remember during the mother-son dance looking over at the grooms’ father and seeing a smile of pure joy on his face because he knew on this day his son was finally able to marry the love of his life. Later in the evening, we saw the father sharing life lessons with the new Groom and Groom and those around them hugging and laughing. It is those moments that make you stop in your tracks and take in the beauty of the day.

A few months later we heard that the Grooms’ father had suddenly passed away from aggressive cancer.

And that hit me.

We were one of the last people to professionally capture their essence on camera. As much as edited wedding films or photographs can bring you back in time, Raw Footage helps bring the past to the present.

For those looking to have an archive of the people closest to you, living completely in the moment with no filter, Raw Footage is truly priceless.

3 Pros of getting raw footage:

It’s good to have a backup, in case you ever lose your edited video.

  1. You will have everything filmed on your wedding day, even if it doesn’t get included in your final edited video.

  2. Gives you the ability to edit together your own film for personal use.

  3. Gives you the ability to edit together your own film for personal use.

3 Cons of raw footage:

  • You have to click every single clip to watch it.

  • It will be in an unedited, flat profile and may look “bland”

  • On camera, audio picks up background noise

Is getting raw footage necessary? No. If you want those moments in an easier format to watch, and you don't plan on doing any editing then we offer ceremony and reception films along with a full day documentary edit (or doc edit).

But, if you love the idea of having it all and not missing anything then adding on raw footage might just be what you are looking for!
